The newly renovated House of Hesed was officially opened yesterday. The Edmonton Street facility—the only one of its kind in the province—provides a home for low-income Manitobans suffering from HIV or AIDS.
Better Care
“It costs a lot less for someone to stay here (compared to a hospital) and the care is infinitely better,” said Cam Tucker, the home’s assistant director.
The House of Hesed has been around since 1998, operating out of a six-bedroom home in the West Broadway area. The new home has enough space for up to 10 residents. Hesed is Hebrew for mercy.
“The whole group living here are like my family, my second family,” said Jonathan Carrington, one of the 8 HIV/AIDS patients living in the home.
Local Christian agency, New Direction for Life Ministries, runs the House of Hesed.
